
Dalton is 2 ½ miles away and has the nearest shops and post office. Dalton has a 12th Century Castle and is the ancient capital of Furness. The famous South Lakes Wild Animal Park is only 5 minutes from the cottage, and well worth a visit to see Lions, Giraffe's and Rhinos. The Loft comes as a highly recommended eating place.
Ulverston is 3 miles from the cottage and is a market town with a variety of specialist shops. Thursday is Market Day when there is a street market with stalls set up in the main street. Ulverston’s main attractions are its Light House Monument on Hoad Hill in memory of Sir John Barrow (nicknamed The Pepper Pot). It is open to the public and you can climb to the top on a Sunday afternoons and Bank Holidays for stunning views of the surrounding area. Ulverston is also the birth place of Stan Laurel where you will find a museum, Pub and eating place in his honour.
